To elaborate in simple and easy words, IT(CSIT) is the subset of computer engineering introduced as a new course. Basically, engineering is the degree offered with variation in the knowledge area. In engineering, you are taught general engineering covering the basics of different engineering like a computer, civil, mechanical, electronics, electrical, and any other engineering. From Engineering Drawing to Workshop Technology even including chemistry. An engineer is prepared to provide solutions to any problem that may come in between. To simplify the difference between them let's have some comparison parameters.

1. Admission process
For both of the courses, you need to appear in entrance exam conducted by IOE for engineering and IOST for IT. There are scholarship schemes on both of the courses. Engineering has a limited number of student enrollments than IT. Both government and private seats are available in both cases.
2. Courses and Syllabus
Both of these are 4-year courses with 8 different semesters. Around 25 subjects are similar in between them which includes C, C++(Object Oriented Programming), Digital logics, Mathematics, Data Structure and Algorithm, Microprocessor, Computer architecture, Statistics, Computer graphics, Numerical Method, Database Management Systems, Computer Networks, Operating Systems, Software engineering, information system, AI and some more.
So with these subjects enlisted, one can have little idea from the name of the subject, what it could deal with. For example, a database system deals with data and its organized management, Digital logics deal with gates and transistors. These are some of the common courses and syllabus for both of them
On the other hand, IT comes with some more courses like Web technology, Java, E-governance, Compiler design and Construction and some more while engineering stands different with Engineering drawing, Chemistry, Electromagnetics, Electrical circuits, Electronic Devices, Electrical Machine, Embedded system, Instrumentation, Economics, Signal processing, and data communication, To be more clear, research on each topic.
In comparison to the number of subjects, Engineering comes with dozen or more subjects than IT in total. Engineering will require a bit more effort though every course requires relevant efforts. The internship is compulsory along with a project in IT while you have a minor project(3rd year) and a major project in 4th year.
Engineering will cost a bit more than IT considering the financial factor.
3. Career Path and Scope
In a world full of computers and technology, even a person with a non-IT background can practice the tools and technologies. After completion of any courses, you need to have skills and knowledge of any practices followed in computer science. From website development to game development, from graphics designing to motion graphics, these all will require skills despite engineering or IT.
Some of the specializations you can get with both of these courses are cyber security, database administrator, system administrator, network administrator, Web development, Game Development, Mobile apps development, Cloud services, Multimedia(Image/Video/animation) Programmer, Information system Manager, IT consultants.
You can learn any programming language like Java, Python, PHP, Javascript, IOS, or any other. You can work as a frontend developer, backend developer, UI/UX designer, Quality Assurance, DevOps, Graphic designer, Data engineer, Data scientist, Telecoms. Both engineering and IT students can apply for the position of software engineer and get equally paid.
It all depends on an individual how much effort and time they can invest. In the case of the government sector, If asked under Engineer only engineers can apply but if IT is mentioned then both can apply. Other than that engineers can put Er. in front of their name.
4. Conclusion
If you want to explore more and have a broad sense of knowledge then engineering can provide you that while if you are interested in the application of computers rather than building the ones, then IT is a good place to go. For doing any activities related to software and application of software, in simple words software is Photoshop and application is photo editing,
If you want to develop a game or any website or something like this which happens on screen and from the keyboard, IT is the better option. But if you want to develop a system that gives you complete information of weather forecast, if you are concerned with better signal processings, then engineering is good to go.
Regarding the scope and future both provide equal opportunities and growths. It's up to you to decide whether you want jewelry on-ear or fingers, you are the GOLD here. Shape yourself the way it suits.
